ILFI & MCLENNAN DESIGN COLLABORATE ON SHOWING A VISION FOR THE FUTURE OF OUR STREETS AS PLACES FOR LIFE

ILFI recently published a compelling report on envisioning the future of the First Hill neighborhood of Seattle and collaborated with McLennan Design to produce powerful visuals to illustrate the approach.
The engaging report asked the question, “What would this district look like as a Living Community”?  First Hill and Central District represent one of the most diverse, vibrant, densely populated, and rapidly changing areas of Seattle.  The scale and immediacy of this change on many large and small parcels is evident by just walking down one of the many streets in this area.
Boren Avenue was selected as a candidate for a re-imagined streetscape – providing opportunities for strategies such as:  food production and urban agriculture, wide and safe places to walk and play, storm water managed by natural features and landscaping, yet  still providing access for transit and personal vehicles to be accommodated in dedicated lanes.
ILFI team members, Jason F. McLennan, and Joshua M. Fisher worked closely to create a conceptual vision of how these actions might be implemented on Boren Avenue, a typical urban roadway, in order to create opportunities for life – socially, ecologically, and culturally.
